CGA-Canada Reviewer’s Forum
In support of promoting excellence in professional practice, the Research & Standards area delivered its national Reviewers Forum from November 16-18 in Toronto, Ontario. As a new initiative, the goal of the event has been to assemble practitioners from across the country to explore practice review processes, to discuss the direction of the profession, and to foster an exchange network.
Aimed at independent practice and file reviewers, firm quality control managers and monitors, and mentors to recently registered practitioners, the program comprises of 2 full days of presentations and interactive case studies. “It was an excellent opportunity for people to share views on matters of ethics and to influence future directions in quality control, mentorship, and practice review” says Richard Duffield, FCGA, President and CEO of R.R. Duffield & Associates Inc. and member of the CGA-Canada Board of Directors. “While providing for a rigorous compliance program, we are very pleased to have established a concurrent theme of continuous firm improvement which promotes the notion of value added Reviewer services” adds Mr. Duffield.
Supplemented by keynote addresses made by John Nagy, FCGA, member of the Canadian Accounting Standards Oversight Council (AcSOC) and past Chair of CGA-Canada and Gary Porter, FCGA, member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Public Accountability Board, and past Vice-Chair of CGA-Canada, presentations were made on the topics of:
· Practice Review Programs Domestically and Abroad and the Role of Reviewers
· Common Deficiencies
· Practice Management of Quality Control
· Our Obligations to the Profession, Internationally and Domestically
· Claims Experience, Loss Prevention and the Role of a National Program in the Quality Control and Review Regime
In keeping with the very positive feedback received, CGA-Canada intends to refine its Public Practice Review Standard, to evolve a Practice Reviewer Guide, and to explore the opportunity to regularly offer the program.
